Senate conference “Sicily, a Mediterranean challenge”
“Sicily and Southern Italy are confirming their role as key players in a new phase of development, at a time when the Mediterranean is returning to the centre of international economic and geopolitical dynamics” stated the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers with responsibility for Southern Italy, Luigi Sbarra, speaking on 19 May at the conference “Sicily, a Mediterranean challenge”, held in the “Caduti di Nassirya” Hall of the Senate.
During his address, the Undersecretary referred to the economic data recorded in recent years for Southern Italy and Sicily in terms of growth, employment, industrial development and exports, emphasising that “these results are the outcome of the Meloni Government’s strategy to strengthen the South through concrete investment, administrative simplification and appropriate industrial policy instruments”.
Significant attention was also devoted to the Single Special Economic Zone (Single SEZ) for Southern Italy, which “is demonstrating its effectiveness: increased investment, faster procedures and new employment opportunities. Within this framework, Sicily is playing a central role,” the Undersecretary concluded.
